TECHNICAL SIDE EVENT: COP22
CARBON SHIFT: ARAB FUTURE ENERGY 2030
OVERVIEW
The Arab region hosts the world’s highest levels of solar radiation, a major asset for shifting to a new sustainable energy future. The Arab Renewable Energy Strategy (2013-2030) sets ambitious targets for scaled-up levels of solar, wind and other renewable energy in the overall energy mix. Progress is starting to be registered, as expressed in the new 2016 Arab Future Energy Index report which ranks all countries in the Middle East and North Africa across a set of 30 key indicators.

The event will launch AFEX 2016 and present many of its key findings, including overview by top renewable performers from ISDB member countries in the region to share lessons on ways countries are achieving scaled-up country action on the low-carbon agenda.

ORGANIZERS
Hosted by the Islamic Development Bank at the ISDB Pavilion at COP22, and organized by the Arab Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Invited speakers from RCREEE and ISDB member countries from the Arab region, and participants from academia, practitioners, think tanks and the media. The event will be moderated by UNDP.
