This 2017 event is the fourth edition of the Summit and is under the theme “Knowledge and the 4th Industrial Revolution”. The Knowledge Summit 2017 will look back on the history of industrial revolutions and their role in transforming people’s lives and in supporting the development of knowledge societies.
The Summit will shed light on the first, second, and third industrial revolutions, before tackling the subject of the Fourth Industrial Revolution – a.k.a. “The Digital Revolution” – which began at the outset of the 21st Century.
The event also features the release of the Global Knowledge Index, the latest product of the partnership between UNDP and Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation. The Index tracks the state of knowledge in 131 countries around the world.
It comprises of seven main sectoral indices: Pre-University Education, Higher Education, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Research, Development and Innovation (RDI), Economy, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and Knowledge-Enabling Environments.
The index employs hundreds of input variables using most recent and credible data from international sources. Its methodology was developed in consultation with top-level local, regional and international experts and academics.
