The AKP will launch the Arab Knowledge Index and the knowledge portal, www.knowledge4all.com, in New York during a workshop organised at the United Nations headquarters. This workshop comes as part of a series of workshops planned by MBRF and UNDP in major Arab and international cities to highlight the outcomes of the Arab Knowledge Index.

The event will start with an introductory video about the Arab Knowledge Index and portal and with opening speeches by  Sima Bahous (Assistant Secretary-General; Assistant Administrator and Regional Director at the Regional Bureau for Arab States) and Amb. Lana Nusseibeh (Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations). 

The workshop will focus on two major topics – What ails the Arab region, and the role of education in facing extremist ideology, and how to take advantage of the Arab Knowledge Index in encouraging education and innovation. In addition, the workshop will highlight the key role of education in taking on extremist ideology and achieving sustainable development.

The workshop will feature prominent speakers, including Dr. Essam Heggy, Egyptian space scientist; Dr. John Dunn, President of Western Michigan University;  and Shireen Sabanegh, Deputy Director for Education and Programs at the Children’s Museum Jordan. The other speakers were Dr. Islam Hussein, Research Scientist at MIT; Dr. Wolfgang Schl?er, associate provost of the Haenick Institute at Western Michigan University; Dr. Hany Torky, Coordinator of the Arab Knowledge Project; Dr. Mohammed Tharwat, Researcher at the University of Caltech, and Dr. Hilda Blanco, Director of Center for Sustainable Cities at University of Southern California.

The Permanent Representative of the Arab League to the United Nations as well as a number of permanent representatives of Arab countries at the UN will attend the workshop. It will also witness the participation of experts and academics from American universities as well as experts from the United Nations and UNDP.

The launch of the Arab Knowledge Index will be broadcasted live for the first time on UN TV.
