UNDP’s regional project on Anti-Corruption and Integrity in Arab Countries (ACIAC) is focused on enabling institutions and systems to address corruption through awareness, prevention and enforcement across sectors and stakeholders (SP output 2.2). To reach its goal, ACIAC works closely with UNDP Country Offices across region and strives to achieve three key outputs (i) national capacities enhanced to draft, implement and monitor laws that prevent and combat corruption; (ii) specific initiatives supported to design, advocate and integrate measures that strengthen transparency and accountability in key vulnerable sectors; and (iii) participatory platforms fostered to promote, inform and review strategies that link anti-corruption to sustainable development. In 2019, the ACIAC regional project plans to support the launch and activation of the national anti-corruption strategies in Kuwait and Lebanon and promoting de jure and de facto compliance with the UNCAC, while scaling up its work to prevent corruption in the health and customs sector while expanding into other sectors in Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, while expanding into new countries such as Lebanon and Saudi Arabia in collaboration with the concerned Country Offices. In addition, it will continue its work to support its two major regional platforms, the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network (ACINET) and Universities Against Corruption (UAC) as inclusive mechanisms for capacity development and collective action, inter alia, to inform the design and execution of innovative policies and practices to prevent and combat corruption for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special focus on SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
